Young families and CEFCO

Friends,

Friday was a special day -- a very important day for our Village.

     (1)  It was field day/sports day at our Elementary School.  Principal Lisa Nix and her teachers did an excellent job planning and executing the day.

Parents were every where and having the opportunity to meet them and their children was an honor.  I am certain many of you are far ahead of me and have had the pleasure of meeting them and seeing first-hand what dynamic citizens they are.

Shaking hands with at least 50-60 parents and listening to them, gave a new perspective to our community.  These young families are civic-minded, interested, and willing to do their part.  They just need to be asked and given the opportunity to become involved.  However, many work and cannot attend day activities or early evening meetings.

More than several said, "If some organizations would consider evening meetings, we would attend.  We love Salado and moved here to be a part of the community.  We may not have a lot of time, but we do have some."

Several said, "Thank you for coming.  It is good to know that our city is interested in my family's well being."

The children were special.  Out of the mouths of babes came these comments:

"Are you the mayor?  Well, hello, Mayor."

"What is you name?  Oh.  I saw the movie 'My Dog Skippy."

"Did you go to school?  Which one?  Were you fast like me?"

"I can out run everyone.  Even him."

"I know your name is Connor, but you have another name."
"It is Turbo," said Connor's dad.

The day was hot and humid.  Sweat trickled down your back and appeared on your forehead.
However, it was really a "cool" day with a wonderful group of parents who took a day away from work to be with their children.

What a great families live in our Village.  Get to know them, they are special.

AND TALKING ABOUT FAMILIES:

CEFCO is now a member of the Village Family.  Welcome, neighbor!

              Very respectfully,

Skip  (I have seen the movie "My dog Skippy.  Skippy is better looking and smarter.)

Turning the Corner

Friends,

You are turning the corner with enthusiasm, optimism, and energy.  Here are just a few examples:

    (1)  The community meetings this week have been filled with your friends and neighbors talking about Salado and the days-to-come with excitement and joy.  After the meetings, little small groups of people are planning, laughing, and sharing their thoughts.  All of these meetings are open to the public and I strongly encourage you to attend.

   (2)  The beauty of our neighborhoods is to behold.  Many of the yards could occupy the front page on any landscape or garden magazine.  Thank you.  Your community pride is catching.  Gayle and I are doing all we can to stay up with you.  You set your standards high.  Thank you, again.

   (3)  You are shopping in our shops down town.  That has not gone unnoticed.  The shop owners are grateful and appreciative.  It not only helps them; it helps you, too.  Generated sales tax can be used to improve our infrastructure.  Please look for that special gift in that "shop around the corner."

   (4)  The golf course is looking beautiful and it appears the number of players are increasing weekly.

Please allow me to tell you a true story from this week:

A shopper was thirsty wanted to get something to drink.  Seeing an establishment that appeared to be open, the shopper stopped, got out of the car, started to enter the business only to discover it was closing.  The shopper apologized and said she would return at a more convenient time.
The merchant said, "Oh, please come in.  It is fine.  I still have cleaning to do and I will be happy to serve you.  Enjoy yourself."

Will the customer come back?  Of course.
Will the customer tell others?  Yes, many times over.
Will the merchant's business grow?  Oh, yes.

It is obvious everyone is individually doing what they can. Thank you.   Collectively, it is very obvious that Salado is turning a corner and proving why many people believe -- The Village of Salado is one of the best small towns in Texas.

                                   Very Respectfully,

                                        Skip

Our Police and Fireman -- a special thank you

Friends,  Tuesday, 27 May

This morning there was horrific accident on I-35, about the middle of Salado, with serious injuries. Our police and fireman were on location assisting, helping, and caring for the people involved in the accident.

Thank you!

This morning Salado awoke to a weather forecast that called for heavy rain, possible hail, and high winds.  Our Police and Volunteer Fire Departments along with our Maintenance worker were ready with barricades for high water, a tractor for moving limbs and mud, and a concern for the health and welfare of each of you.

Thank you!

A week ago, a deer tried to jump a fence in a neighbor and miscalculated the jump.  It landed in the middle of the fence with a spike in its stomach.  The Police Department, with care, took the dead deer off the fence and gently drove it to its final resting place.

Thank you!

Last Friday, some of our Policeman and Fireman, along with others, started cooking early morning for the Construction worker picnic.  Using their personal time and cooking skills, they made many people happy.

Thank you!

Our security, health, and welfare are crucial.  Thanks to our Policeman and Volunteer Fire Department, we are safe and secure.

                   Very respectfully,
                Skip Blancett, Mayor
