Three notes on Construction

Friends,

1.  A note from TxDoT

"I just wanted to let you know that the remaining portion of the old Main St overpass that JCG has been working on will be demolished tomorrow morning (Saturday 11/20), beginning at about 8 AM. It will not require any lane closures or traffic control, as it will happen completely within the work zone behind the barrier.

I know it’s short notice, but the engineering plan just got done and was approved today, and they had the opportunity to get it done quickly, so they can forge ahead with the work in that area, rather than having to wait until after the holiday. They expect it to take only about an hour or less to complete, but in case anyone saw the process and was concerned, I wanted you to know about it so you can respond to any questions you may get.

If you have any questions or need more information, please let me know -

2.  "Next week, you can expect a complete closure on both sides of I-35 between Belton and Salado on two nights. Check your daily closure reports for details.

Sunday, Nov. 22, the closures will start at 10 PM and end at 7 AM the next morning.

Monday, Nov. 23, the closures will start at 7 PM and end by 7 AM Tuesday morning.

And then – NO mainlane closures allowed (unless it’s an emergency!) until Sunday night midnight after Thanksgiving! Have a great weekend and drive safely!

3.  A note from James Construction:

"Just keeping you in the loop.   The 2484 Milestone #2 was completed today on schedule.'

  1. Sirs, we hope you do not mind but are using your project and their other projects up the 35 corridor James Construction Group is doing for instructional training videos on what not to do on our projects.

On a side note, it is clear to us that James Construction Group is publically traded; money is no concern. If this were one of our projects, we would have been fired and a new team bought in bringing the projects back to basics. You have shown allot patience towards this company by the looks of the mess this company creates and all the uncompleted work left open. If I were in your shoes, I would be upset too.

I did read some of the older posts and the ones that tell community to take many pictures and document the muddy roads and unsanitary conditions is spot on. I would be making sure the leaders are taking many during rain events and the muddy conditions. Recreating the creek using Google and the environmental issues by the looks of the amount of exposed soils and unsanitary housekeeping, you might just find the silt laden water runoff is not helping.

I recall when this project designed the sequencing and staging was different. I would be asking TxDOT who changed the sequencing and staging on the project. The impacts to the frontage road businesses and access to the community was considered in the original staging. The revised staging along with the vast amount of the uncompleted work sure makes it very difficult to get around. That is in addition to all those message boards and cluttered signage makes it more confusing. I would think that the modifications to the original stages have some sort of benefit to someone but it seems someone did not take into account the community traffic flow or local economics. I would be asking TxDOT why those changes were made that seems to have made a mess and very confusing access points.
