1. The Holidays are over and it is time to blog, again. For the next few weeks, this Blog will take the form of Questions and Answers. For instance, the latest will be given about Construction, the sewer lines and sewer plant, the low water bridge, and other issues. Much of the information will be quotes from people who are doing the work and know what is happening.
2. Congratulations to our new Chamber Directors:
Allie Guenther - Guenther Design Group
Gail Allard - Salado Glass Works
Jim Ruesch - Strawberry Patch
They represent some of the newest business owners in town and they come with creativity, energy, and determination. Like the Village, the Chamber is changing as new people move in and new leadership emerges.
3. Driving around the community, it is interesting to note how fast houses sell. One month, a house comes on the market. A month or three later, it is under contract or sold. Yes, there are some homes that have been on the market longer, but the majority sell fast. It is interesting to watch the homes being built in the sub-divisions. They sell very quickly. And, there are at least four new subdivision being planned for this year. None of which are a part of Sanctuary. New people, new ideas, new leadership.
4. Two great events this last weekend:
a. St. Joseph Episcopal Church held their 3rd Annual 5K run. Over 215 runners/walkers participated in the event that went straight down Main Street early Saturday morning. Afterwards, some who participated in the run were shopping in the stores. In all, it was a win-win for St. Joseph and the Village.
In church Sunday, the congregation was bubbling with enthusiasm. Lots of appreciation for the citizens, the Police Department, and committed workers who made the event happen. So many young families and children are attending and their interest in the Village is evident. Some of their events like their special music and the little library are adding a new dimension to the art and culture of Salado.
b. Horse roping was the name of the sport at Wildfire. The parking lot was full of horse trailers, pick-ups, and people as evident below;
Meet Bill Plummer, a participant from Weatherford, Texas:
The two young men below are loading their plastic roping bull. Practice makes perfect.
This is Salado, Texas on a Saturday afternoon -- Horse trailers, fine looking horses, and roping.
5. New Year's day was a time to recover and celebrate. A difficult 2015 was over and a bright, healthy 2016 was beginning. Inspire of headaches from a strong New Year's eve as depicted below, it is going to be a great year.
We may be a little rough and beat-up but we are still running, and we are stronger, more resilient than ever. For every day there is much in which to be thankful.
