Your Village in 3 Minutes, Sunday, 4 October

Friends,

Here is the latest in your village:

1.  Grants -- the Fire Department will receive a $200,000 grant in the future.  They are number 2 on the list to receive it sometime this year. According to the Fire Chief, the money will be used to buy a new BRUSH truck to fight fires that begin in the Brush areas.

College Hill has received a $17,000 grant for work to be done on our historical College.  Bill Kinnison wrote the submission and received the grant for his work.

Susan Terry and Keep Salado Beautiful are submitting their paperwork for a $90,000 grant.  Susan explains "our project would fund the North gateway sign and landscaping."  Looking around Salado, Keep Salado Beautiful's touch is everywhere.

Public Art League (PALS) has also received grants.

arTexas has received numerous donations.  Over 111 pieces of Art is being judged this weekend.  Art from all over Texas!

Who says Salado cannot receive grants!  This is Proof Positive!!!!

2.  Dave Swarthout sent this email:

"A prominent person was at what was called a VIP meeting in Killeen and overheard a conversation regarding the road construction in Killeen. The people that were talking were quite miffed by the fact that all the construction crews had been moved to Salado and were wondering what pull Salado had over Killeen. The person just sat there with a smile on their face."

3.  The Board of Aldermen/Lady receives request to name buildings and bridges after people who have contributed much to our Village over the years.  These requests are all well-written and the people are very deserving.  However, the Aldermen/Lady fill that there are not enough buildings and bridges in Salado to give everyone the proper credit they deserve.  Someone, who has given and sacrificed as much as someone else, will be left out and that is not acceptable.  The Board of Aldermen will continue to work to find a way to recognize everyone.  One has suggested a public Wall of Honor with a brief write-up of each person's contribution.  Other suggestions?

  1. Dear Mayor Blancett and Alderman McDougal,

One of the critical factors for project success is having a well-developed project plan. Please ask the Texas of Department of Transportation to have their contractor explain the project plan moving forward to key stakeholders and discuss its key components. Their monthly update baseline schedule was due to the Texas Department of Transportation within the time constraints the allowed by contract. If this hasn’t been provided then request last month’s baseline schedule update.

One of the most misunderstood terms in project management, the project plan is a set of living documents that can be expected to change over the life of the project. Like a roadmap, it provides the direction for the project. And like the traveler, the project manager needs to set the course for the project, which in project management terms means creating the project plan. Just as a driver may encounter road construction or new routes to the final destination, the project manager may need to correct the project course as well.

At this stage of the project, common sense says by now the contractor should have a well thought out plan and how they plan on completing the project timelier and in compliance of the contract. This includes keeping the work area neat, clean, and presentable and in compliance of the contract.

    Kind regards,

  2. It’s good they brought more bodies to the project. Bodies aren't going to complete the project within the time constraints we’ve been led to believe it would be completed by.

By the looks of what isn’t occurring, this company is in over there head. The filthy conditions and uncompleted work say more than what they think a cowboy understands; we aren’t stupid.

I am at a loss. What makes anyone think this company will follow through with promises and complete anytime soon? They've lied to so far and haven't done anything they said except for a brief period where it looked like something positive was occurring. This company couldn’t give a darn about us or anyone but themselves.

Take time and drive around our town and drive up the 35 corridor look at how unkept and filthy their projects look up and down the corridor. This companies projects housekeeping compared to our garbage dump, I’ll take our garbage dump over the filth and clutter. Even the dust clouds or dirty streets, they don’t know what clean means or how to control dust coming from their work area coating the interiors of our businesses. Williams Brothers and Hunter Contracting would be good examples of how projects are supposed to be kept and completed. They completed their work timely and kept those communities clean. We have to complain and ask for mercy to get anything positive or have them produce timely. It’s no wonder our businesses are hurting and our tourist dollars are being taken elsewhere.

Their big bosses come into town and managers all drive the project, they don’t apologize or rectify the conditions we contend with daily. They show up tell us something what they we want to hear. They must think cowboys are dumb enough to drink their Kool-Aid. The Kool-Aid is up. We don't drinking Kool-Aid. We never have. We never will. We are going to speak more often as time passes and make sure our leaders and the Texas Department of Transportation holds everyone accountable.

We want our Village back. We want you done. We are sick of the lies.
