The latest from the Governor's Office

Friends,

As you know, representatives of Congressman Carter's Office, our Chamber, Representatives, and myself were invited to meet with a select group of the Governor's Office, 8 March, 10-11 A.M.

Purpose:  Construction and a Request for 3 million dollars in damages.

At the end of the well presented and received meeting which lasted exactly 60 minutes, the Governor's representatives said they would be in touch with us.

8- days later,16 March, Chuy Gonzalez, Policy Advisor for Transportation to the Governor, called and scheduled a Conference Call  for 3:30 P.M., 17 March, with Melanie Kirchmeier, our group's representative.

The next day, 17 March, 3:30 P.M., Mr. Gonzalez called Melanie.

He wanted to:

"Arrange a Conference with his group and our group in the near future.  An email will be sent from his office with available dates."

He also said,

"We are processing the information you gave and seeing what we can do."

According to Cheryl Hussmann, Congressman Carter's representative:

"This is good response time from the Governor's Office."

As soon as we hear from Mr. Gonzalez, our group will meet to preparing for the next meeting.  We will NOT attend a meeting without total preparation and our Group is very professional and dedicated to the cause. We will be ready for the next round of talks.

As we go forward, you will be kept informed.

  1. Congratulations. Hopefully the Governor’s office and TxDOT are able to recognize how the project has impacted many throughout the region. But not for all the changes made to the contracted staged work and traffic control plans that we recall was supposed to be constructed following a specific traffic control plan sequence and construction sequence. It does appear or seem that major changes might have occurred to the overall staging verses what we were led to believe about the contracted work.

If you haven't already, you might ask TxDOT under the Public Records Disclosure Act for copies of the executed or pending change orders showing the changes made to the overall plan we understood was supposed to be built. Maybe those credits aren't enough to cover the global impacts incurred if that is what Site Manager deducts are for. Those deducts would be in addition the RUC and liquidated damages TxDOT deducts.

It would be nice if they completed Thomas Arnold overpass and everything to the south. This would include all work not partially like everything else including all the cracked and damaged concrete that exists throughout. Also the damaged concrete north of Thomas Arnold, that work needs to be removed and replaced. I would ask TxDOT if they have a list of corrective action and the schedule when those will be completed. WE should hope those aren't included on the punch list and left until the end after issuing substantial completion. Those are major items of work that will impede or block our traffic flows.

I makes no sense why they aren't working on more fronts with all the open real estate sitting empty and partially complete. If they'd at least close up what they've opened and stop opening more areas before they complete what they've started it would a lot less painful and help reduce the impacts.
