Irving Berlin wrote it; we sing it

Friends,

Born in a poor Russian Jewish ghetto, Irving Berlin immigrated to America with his parents when he was 5, settling New Your's Lower East Side.  He came of the most prolific American songwriters in history.  "God Bless America" is an American patriotic song he originally wrote in 1918 and revised in 1938 as war was threatening Europe.  It takes the form of a prayer for God's blessing and peace for the nation.  It is considered an unofficial national anthem of the United States.

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.

God bless America, land that I love
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above
From the mountains, to the prairies,
to the ocean white with foam
God bless America, my home sweet home.

The world has not changed much; nor has this patriotic song.

God bless America, land that we love.
