Friends,
Last evening, Mike Kilgore visited Salado. He has been coming every other week to examine the progress of I-35 construction, Salado and Belton. That is a journey since he lives in Louisiana.
In discussing the Salado segment, he said;
1. The Salado segment of I-35 was one of the most difficult Projects James Construction has undertaken. It has 27 phases and 175 steps. Example: doing one bridge might be considered a phase. Salado construction project is 3.1 miles. Think about 27 phases in 3.1 miles.
2. Finding people to work is a challenge. For whatever reason, Belton and Salado are especially difficult. It is a mystery to him. It is especially hard to find heavy equipment operators, especially cranes. Using Soldiers transitioning out of the military was of interest to him.
3. The number of accidents in this construction segment was unusual. He wants to try to alleviate this situation.
4. Most of the crew that has been working on this segment have been replaced. He thinks the new crew is making a difference.
5. He knows that Salado has suffered and is committed to ending the construction as soon as possible. December 15 this year will be difficult but he is trying to make it happen.
6. In order, to do more and speed up completion, James Construction is hiring subcontractors to help. He said you will see different names on trucks working construction projects.
7. James Construction was bought by PSC 5 years ago.
8. In touring Salado, he was impressed with beautiful homes, the deer, and the size. He thought it looked much bigger than 2100.
9. He wanted to visit Salado to get to know the people and the Village.
It was good to have The President visit us. He will come back. Completing the Salado Project is of high interest to him and his team.
