And they came last evening:
To eat great hamburgers and sausage wraps . . . and visit
dressed in red, white, and blue . . . with the sweetest look
to spread blankets and enjoy a cool breeze . . . . and share stories and memories
to play and tumble as they waited for the magic moment when the sky turned bright
to get a good spot so that all could be seen and felt and enjoyed
to hold their date
and visit with friends
to wait, wait, wait with great anticipation and excitement
And then . . . . all of sudden, the ground shook and the sky exploded with red, white, blue, green, and yellow flashes of light . . .
And there were oohs and ahhhhhs and ohhhhhhhs
Children said, "look," "wow," and "did you see that"
and adults stared in disbelief, spell bound, loss for words, and thankful that this was Salado.
